# IDHS - Intermediate Defensive Handgun Shooting

Course Description:
This 8 hr program takes the skills developed in the basic defensive course and applies them in a more mobile environment, challenging the student to engage multiple targets at varied distances, while integrating malfunction clearing reloading, and different shooting positions as well as use of cover/concealment. This is a dynamic program demanding physical mobility on the part of the student, but will be geared towards developing the student's will to win.

Prerequisites:
NYS Pistol License
FITG Basic Defensive Handgun Shooting or NRA Defensive Pistol Course

Material Covered:
Safety review and briefing
Shooting and moving dynamics
Immediate Action Drills (malfunction clearing)
Reloading skills under stress
Assessing tactical threats
Shooting from various positions (standing, kneeling, prone)
Elements of/use of cover and concealment
Successful completion of a 30 round "Hogan's Alley" type qualification

Course Equipment Requirements:

• Revolver or pistol that is instructor approved for this program
• Cartridge caliber: Service/duty caliber, pending instructor approval (.44 magnum loads are not recommended)
• Suitable defensive/duty strong side holster (instructor approved)
• Semi-auto pistols will require a minimum of 3 magazines and suitable magazine pouch. Revolvers require the use of 2 speedloaders and suitable speedloader pouch
• Sturdy belt or duty belt for holster
• 200 rounds of ammunition required
• Suitable firearm cleaning kit
• Eye and ear protection
• Elbow and knee pads are recommended
• Shooting gloves are optional
• Notebook/notepad and pen/pencil
• Baseball cap or brimmed hat
• Shirt with collar
• Sunscreen
• No sandals or open toe shoes
• Bring lunch, snacks and beverage(s) for hydration
