# BHSF - Basic Handgun Shooting Fundamentals
Course Description:
An introductory 8 hour range class emphasizing the six universal handgun/firearm shooting basics.
Material Covered:
Safety review and briefing
The Stance
The elements that create a stable shooting platform.
The Grip
The grip forms the means to aim, fire, and control the handgun under firing conditions.
Sight Alignment
Establishing and maintaining the relationship between the front and rear sights during firing conditions.
Sight Picture
Establishing and maintaining the relationship of the sight alignment and the intended point of impact.
Trigger Control
Trigger control is the skill necessary to provide the successful discharge of a firearm that maintains the balance between the grip, sight alignment, and sight picture to hit the intended target, and reset for a follow-up shot.
Breath Control/Follow Through
Breathing and follow through is the ability to continue to maintain balance of the stance, the grip and sight picture, that will provide the optimum success of the shot hitting the intended target.

Prerequisites:
NYS Pistol License
Basic Handgun Safety or equivalent NRA course
Completed course enrollment form for preregistration (available on the PROGRAMS page)

Course Equipment Requirements:
- Revolver or pistol that is instructor approved for this program
- Cartridge caliber: .22 through .45 chamberings (.357 and .44 magnum loads are not recommended)
- Suitable holster (instructor approved)
- Sturdy belt for holster
- 200 rounds of ammunition required
- Notebook/notepad and pen/pencil
- Eye and ear protection is required
- Baseball cap or brimmed hat
- Shirt with collar
- Sunscreen
- No sandals or open toe shoes
- Bring lunch, snacks and beverage(s) for hydration
