# FL790 - Proof of Competency Certification for Florida CWL

Program Description:
This certification runs approximately 3 hrs. and is designed to validate the client has met the requirement designated by the State of Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The program will start with short safety review and briefing.
The client will then successfully complete a dryfire manipulation practical and a 50 round course of live fire with either a revolver or semi-automatic handgun, out to 15 yards, on a designated qualification target. Successful clients will receive a certificate verifying that the competency with a firearm requirement of the Florida statutes has been met in accordance with Florida State Weapons and Firearms Law Chapter 790.06
(2) The Dept of Agriculture and Consumer Services shall issue if the applicant:
                (h) demonstrates competence with a firearm . . .

Prerequisites:
NYS Pistol license
​Basic handgun handling/shooting knowledge/skills
Completed course enrollment form for preregistration (available on the PROGRAMS page)

Equipment Requirements:

• Eye and ear protection is required
• Your own firearm and strong side concealed carry holster (pocket holsters are not allowed)
• If using a:
   - Semi-auto: you should have a minimum of two (2) functional magazines (3 preferable) 
   - Revolver: you should have a minimum of two (2) speed loaders
• Sturdy belt 
• 50 rounds of suitable range or SD ammunition
• Baseball cap or brimmed hat
• Sunscreen
• No sandals or opened toe shoes

All firearms and supporting equipment (gun belts, holsters, mag pouches/ speed loader/pouches, etc.)   used for this course must be approved by the instructor, for practicality, function and safety, in                  prior to participation in the practical exercises.
